Mystery solved: the dill and parsley plants in our box garden are loaded with black swallowtail caterpillars. I guess I’m more of a biologist than I am a gardener, because I’m letting these guys have a chance to form their chrysalises and turn into gorgeous butterflies (like the one I posted yesterday). Dill and parsley are among the host plants of this species. Biology ROCKS.
