Texas Science Standards

When it comes to reporting about policies on teaching evolution in public schools, you can’t believe much of what you read in the media. There’s a lot at stake in a big and influential state like Texas. The Board of Education has been reconsidering the state’s science standards. Hence we’re seeing a lot of media spinning and distorting going on.

Fortunately you’ve got us. Our colleague Sarah Chaffee has followed the situation in the Lone Star State closely. On a new episode of ID the Future, she gives the background and corrects the record. Download the episode here, or listen to it here.

You’ll learn more about HB 1485, a bill to protect teachers who wish to discuss scientific evidence for and against evolution, and about the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills science standards streamlining. The Board of Education will vote on that in April.

Science and Culture

Science and Culture Today (SCT) provides original reporting and analysis about evolution, neuroscience, bioethics, intelligent design and other science-related fields, including breaking news about scientific research. It also covers the impact of science on culture and conflicts over free speech and academic freedom in science. Finally, it fact-checks and critiques media coverage of scientific issues.
