Honestly, Metaxas is a unique blend of intelligence, charm, modesty, and earnestness. The conversation is more personal than you might expect. He talks with Dr. Axe about his (Doug’s, not Eric’s) experience of being kicked out of his research job in Cambridge, England, when the direction of his work became clear to his boss, Sir Alan Ferscht. The issue was the fine-tuning of protein structures, a subject with clear design implications.
Axe was an admitted “utopian” at the time who thought science was something pure, where workers in any given field simply pursue the truth where it leads without fear or favor. Ha! Very funny.
What many people don’t seem to realize, as Eric points out, is that “We’re living in a world where bad ideas can dominate.” The fact that denying the design of life is dominant in our scientific culture only proves that its advocates have mastered the sociological dynamics that ensure conformity of thought.
