A Darwinist Worries about Darwinian Rhetoric

Jack Scanlan, Australian blogger and contributor to Darwinist group blog Panda’s Thumb, picks up on Casey Luskin’s comments here about anti-ID rhetoric and adds an unintentionally humorous suggestion for ID critics.

What Exactly Was Darwin’s Religion?

At first glance, that question may appear to pose an enigma. For the position that Charles Darwin believed in God is completely untenable. Yet it is certainly also true that Darwin was no arch-atheist. Read More ›

Contradictions, Irony, and Appeals to Authority Permeate The Language of Science and Faith

Giberson and Collins appeal to authority but admit the evidence is all that matters, claim that anti-Darwin literature uses "outdated" arguments when their own book uses outdated arguments for evolution, and Giberson lacks the same qualifications of those Darwin-doubting scientists whose qualifications he attacks. Why are they making these weak, non-scientific, and self-contradictory arguments? Read More ›

Karl Giberson and Francis Collins Commit Berra’s Blunder While Arguing for Macroevolution

Presto chango--evolution sounds so easy! But according to Darwin, evolution requires more than just "enough generations." Darwin acknowledged that evolution also requires a continuous evolutionary pathway. Read More ›

Does Giberson and Collins’ Neanderthal Argument Demonstrate “Common Ancestry”?

When most people hear "Neanderthal," they think of a primitive caveman-like prehuman brute. What many don't realize is that this popular view is very much a Darwinian interpretation, and it is betrayed by much evidence. Read More ›

Karl Giberson v. Al Mohler on Darwin: The Grudge Match

It’s always a bad sign when people start publishing “open letters” to one another. Our BioLogos friend Karl Giberson is embroiled in a strangely bitter dispute with Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Bitter, at least, on Dr. Giberson’s side. In this dustup, theistic evolutionist Giberson displays a lot less dignity than the object of his ire, Dr. Mohler, and less regard for truth notwithstanding that it’s precisely a lack of truthfulness with which he seeks to tar Mohler. Dr. Giberson’s concern as always is to demonstrate the Christian bona fides of Darwinian theory. Writing on the Huffington Post under the striking headline “How Darwin Sustains My Baptist Search for Truth,” he now takes Mohler to task Read More ›

Francis Collins, Karl Giberson, and Books and Culture Promote Misconceptions About Intelligent Design, Falsifiability & Junk DNA

In the media, it’s not unusual for an interviewer and interviewee to hold similar views on whatever subject they are discussing. Radio show hosts and podcasters, for example, commonly interview friendly guests. But imagine if Paul Allen interviewed Bill Gates on the merits of Microsoft, and then published the interview as an independent journalistic article in Wired magazine. Not only would it would read like a paid advertisement, but critics would begin wondering if Wired was in business to promote Microsoft products. The Microsoft example is of course fictional, but something like it happened recently when Karl Giberson (executive vice president of the BioLogos Foundation) interviewed Francis Collins (the president of BioLogos), and then published the interview in Christianity Today‘s Read More ›
